Yes I know rulesPlayer works for Vista, but It's quite annoying how the screen turns black, and then comes back with an annoying message telling me that it had to switch out of Aero to playblack the video on rulesPlayer.
Is there anything I can do without having to turn off Aero? |

Yes, uninstall vista, it is crap 
I think the problem is because of the overlay surface that mplayer use for it's directx driver (if you don't know what is this - well it is directx (directdraw) thingie so ask m$ to fix it ). If you switch to opengl output it should be ok, but opengl support is buggy in mplayer so... go back to point one
