Lack of being able to edit/add to the wiki

Reported by: robby Assigned to: JJR

Description

From experience conversations in just ticket form can be quite cumbersome, and as tickets get pruned, or closed the dialog that was gathered is lost.

Is there a defined reason why the wiki doesn't allow edits, or additions? Furthermore if there is concern for excess content without intention, is there a possibility of a user sandbox?

If we're logged on one would assume editing is allowed, gathering it's not can we discuss why, and potential compromises?

Context: was going to pull discussion from ticket #175 and add some information ~ however well.. ya know.

Ok, it seems in a way I spoke too soon. (some pages are editable, some aren't)

What I was wanting to add to the project home was add a Concepts page under Issues and Enhancements on the project home page to encourage discussion on ideas and concepts for possible future inclusion.

However, it looks like that page is locked, ok.. however, now if a page is added it's only visible from pages index (by title and date) which means that any page will easily get lost.

How about a "Community" page off of the home page that can be edited/used by users/developers, and allows a little more visibility to the discussion?

  • status changed from new to closed.
  • resolution set to fixed.

Just to start this off, see also #260.

The thought is that we want to limit editing of the official documentation, frontpage and adnministrative pages. The rest (created or not) should be editable by registered dsource users. All documentative pages should have a link at the top to a page where comments can be written. All API docs have a link into the wiki from the headings. We hope that users can use these to comment upon errors, suggest improvements, etc.

We also hope to get starten on a more HowTo like reference, as much good documentation as possible really, taking ideas from above mentioned comment pages, Q&A in the forums and more.

Note that we hope to extend Trac soon such that forums can be attached to any given pages, making it possible to discuss where there are things to discuss.

Now, this is only related to what you want, although I think the forum functionality would be helping. We do want to be a catalyst for new and inventive ways to do things, whether they end up in the Tango core or not.

So, in the end, I have taken to your idea, and created the page IdeasAndEnhancements which are edited by all of you, and so should the pages linked be. I wouldn't mind if this became a truly community driven area of the wiki. If you need to discuss this further, why not use the forums?

Should be "editable by all of you" in the last paragraph there ..
