Online documentation scrolling sluggishly in Firefox 3.0

Reported by: torhu Assigned to: pragma
Priority: normal Milestone: WebSite 1.0
Component: Web frontend Version: 0.99.6 Jeff
Keywords: firefox Cc:

Description

Scrolling on for instance this page in FF 3.0 is annoyingly slow for me: http://dsource.org/projects/tango/docs/current/tango.io.model.IConduit.html

I can't remember if it was like this in FF 2, maybe someone else can comment on that. But I don't think it was. The scrolling speed is ok in Opera 9.5 and IE 7.

I realize this probably is candyoc issue, but IIRC, that's a dead project.

The version of Firefox I'm using is 3.0 RC2 on winxp, which is the same version that will be released as 3.0 final later today. There have been complaints about slow scrolling on other web sites too, so there's a slight possibility that this will be patched in a couple of months. Probably not, though.

  • owner changed from larsivi to pragma.
  • component changed from Documentation to Web frontend.
  • milestone changed from 0.99.7 to WebSite 1.0.

FF3 is afaik the only slow browser on this code, so the most likely answer here is that FF3 is b0rken.

I'll give it to pragma in case he has some insight on it though.

Nothing slow about it here, oddly enough, using FF 3.0 (Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9) Gecko/2008052906 Firefox/3.0)

  • status changed from new to closed.
  • resolution set to worksforme.

Tested on FF 3.0 on Linux, works fine.

I should mention that I have an Athlon 1.3 GHz, which is probably why this is a problem for me but not for any of you. I tried FF in safe mode to make sure it's not caused by an extension.

Sure, but FF3 is supposed to have a much faster JS engine, so it really should be a FF bug?

Funny, I can't get it to scroll slowly today. Maybe it was an intermittent problem.

If this is a problem that affect a number of web sites, it's probably already reported. If not, it's probably a waste of time to report it.
