Hi,
Surfing on dsource I noticed that the git version system is available. As previously said I can't use SVN because of a proxy on my main computer but I could use git. Ok it is my problem however git is very simple to use and rumored more efficient than for example SVN. Then maybe you guys are also using git and wouldn't mind switching to it
Anyone interested?

Wow, I keep missing these posts. Sorry about that.
What do you think of mercurial? I admit to being quite ignorant in the dvcs holy-wars, but I only suggest it because it's something I already know from using bitbucket, and dsource supports it as well.
I spent a few hours with tortoise-git and using assembla as a host, but couldn't ever get it to work. Lame reasons, I know |

I also prefer Mercurial over Git.
Also TortoiseGit is so bad compared to TortoiseHg. |

Haven't tried Mercurial but have only heard nice things about it. |

Have not tried Mercurial or Git either, except when I need to grab some source code to play around with.
For all my personal coding I use Svn. For me, a big part is the tools. Tortoise is great if you are on a windows box, but similar tools are harder to come by on Linux.
I have been using RabbitVCS. It is inspired by TortoiseSVN, integrates well with nautilus and thunar(tho I have not used it in thunar).
Hey, look at that. TortoiseHg works with nautilus as well. |

Does anyone know a reason not to switch to Mercurial? I've only been using it in some of my other projects for about a month, but it seems like it's faster and I've had less issues with it (e.g. I can move and delete directories all I want directly with the filesystem w/o it complaining). In fairness, I suppose git is equal here.
Anarky, do you know if mercurial can be configured to use a proxy server in order to avoid the same problem you have with svn? |

Sure, TortoiseHg has a proxy options tab in the global settings. |

Well the proxy on my main (shared) connection is only open for git and cvs as far as I know, this is why I was asking for git. On the top of this I am on GNU/Linux with command line in mind.
But never mind, if most people want mercurial it does not really matter. I will use patches and so on. |

Correct me if I'm wrong but Mercurial uses https, I can't imagine they block that. |
