|

I just installed Descent from the update site, and now I have nothing! It's as if Descent were entirely removed. The only sign that Descent exists is that the update manager claims that it is.
Any idea what's going on? I asked on the IRC channel, and someone said they were experiencing the same problem, but they had no solution. |

If you previously had Descent installed, then updating won't work, I guess. I changed the update site to:
http://downloads.dsource.org/projects/descent/update-site
Can you describe better what you previously had in your computer and how did you update? |

Ubuntu 8.10, Eclipse 3.4, sun jdk 6. I had installed a nightly build, then I removed all files with 'descent' in the name before installing via the update site. |

Reinstalling Eclipse (3.2.2 this time) made it work. |

Okay, descent is incompatible with Eclipse 3.4.1. Fresh install, removed .eclipse, reinstalled descent, and no sign of descent. |

Same problem for me. Descent D perspective disappears after updating with the new update site. I tried manually removing the old and new and tried installing repeatedly with no success.
This is Eclipse 3.4.1 on win32 (XP). Prior version of descent was working on this platform.
Any solutions yet?

I have no problems with this. When descent changed the update site I just removed the old one in eclipse and created a new one. I always restart eclipse when told to after an update. Mac OS X, Eclipse 3.4.1 Build id: M20080911-1700, java version "1.5.0_16". |

I also don't have troubles with this. I tried to update with Eclipse 3.4.1 in Vista and it worked. Mmm.. Can you check what you have in your plugins directory related to Descent? |

In eclipse/plugins I have:
Code: | descent.astview_0.5.3.20081231.jar
descent.core_0.5.3.20081231.jar
descent.debug.core_0.5.3.20081231.jar
descent.debug.ui_0.5.3.20081231.jar
descent.launching_0.5.3.20081231.jar
descent.ui.metrics_0.5.3.20081231.jar
descent.ui_0.5.3.20081231.jar
descent.ui_0.5.3.20090102.jar |
And in eclipse/features I have:
Code: | descent.ui_0.5.3.20090102 |

Having the same problem.
Used a fresh Eclipse 3.4.1 and installed Descent via the Eclipse update feature, restarted but nothing is shown. No D tab in the preferences, no D category in the projects list etc. |

My plugin directory has the same contents as doob's except that descent.ui_0.5.3.20081231.jar is missing.
descent.ui_0.5.3.20090102.jar is present.
This may be the problem? I don't know why that version of descent.ui is missing since I followed the normal update procedure and restarted eclipse as usual...
But multiple attempts of installing/uninstalling/reinstalling (even manually deleting) led to the same problem.

Hmm... that doesn't make sense either. I probably don't have the older descent.ui simply because I deleted it during the uninstall. I shouldn't need it for version 2009-01-02, correct?

A feature is composed of many plugins which can have different version numbers. If I remember correctly, the ui plugin has a greater date than the other ones, and that doesn't present any problem at all. |

True. Just looking inside features.xml for descent, I see that the newer ui plugin is listed.
I have no idea what the problem is, then. All I know is that the previous version of descent was working and then *boom* the perspective no longer exists after uninstalling and updating, even though the plugin is registered as installed in the updates field.
Maybe I should start from scratch and re-download Eclipse. I have the CDT version of it right now.
